MURRINDINDI - VICTORIA - AUSTRALIA |

Only an hour and a half's drive from Melbourne, through lush green valleys and forests of soaring Mountain Ash, Murrindindi is not so much a region as a lifestyle.
Welcoming towns and villages nestle in a landscape of mountains, forests, lakes and sparkling streams, and fertile farmlands supply a never-ending supply of natural produce. It's a place to relax and unwind, indulge in treasured pastimes and seek out new adventures.
Wander through magnificent forests to picnic beside fern gullies and cascading waterfalls, cast a line in search of fresh trout for dinner, or sample the mouth-watering delights of local berry farms, orchards and vineyards.
Water-ski on the waters of Lake Eildon, take to the snow-covered slopes of Lake Mountain in winter or hike to the peaks of the Cathedral Range for breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside. Explore arts and culture at artist studios and craft galleries, and gain a glimpse into the past at fascinating historic attractions.
Murrindindi's towns share a feeling of community and warm hospitality yet each has its own special style. With its magical mountain setting, elegant guesthouses and spectacular Steavenson Falls, Marysville has long been a holiday favourite for Victorians.
Further north, past the imposing ramparts of the Cathedral Range, is the heritage charm of Alexandra, the gateway to Lake Eildon. Towns such as Yea, Kinglake and Eildon are encircled by parks, scenic reserves and rich farmlands, with unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreation and a tantalising array of local produce.
Wining and dining is a memorable part of the Murrindindi experience, with many restaurants and cafes featuring the best of local food and wines, and premium regional wines on offer at renowned vineyards and wineries dotted across the valleys.
Or fill a picnic hamper with home-grown delicacies - berries, fruits, nuts, olives, fish, cheeses and breads - and enjoy an alfresco feast beside a lake or mountain stream. Crystal clear waters are never far away in Murrindindi, with lakes, rivers and waterfalls providing superb settings for water sports and sightseeing.
With over 500 kilometres of shoreline and excellent facilities for water skiing, fishing and boating, it's no wonder that Lake Eildon is Victoria's inland water playground. Walking trails through bush land and forest in the surrounding national park feature panoramic views and an abundance of wildlife.
It's easy to relax amid the tranquil beauty of the Australian bush in Kinglake National Park, discovering majestic waterfalls, lush fern gullies and native wildlife including the amazing lyrebird.
Murrindindi is famous for its fishing, especially for trout in the rivers around Eildon and Thornton, and even if the fish aren't biting a number of trout farms are close by to ensure you won't go home empty handed.
In winter, skiers and tobogganers head for the premier cross-country skiing resort of Lake Mountain near Marysville, where well-groomed trails undulate across the plateau in an inspiring snow-clad landscape.
At day's end, indulge in the tranquil comforts of a luxury retreat or secluded country cottage, or enjoy true Murrindindi hospitality in charming B&Bs, friendly caravan parks and historic pubs. For something different, hire a houseboat on Lake Eildon and let the world drift by. Take time out to stay with us, and share the Murrindindi magic.
